Submitted on 2008-02-03 at 07:00:00

On March 2nd 2008, chase season began with a short trek to southwest Oklahoma. We took the opportunity to test out some new equipment and found quite a few bugs to work out before the next chase! It was still great to get out.

Launched New Version of Site

Submitted on 2007-07-24 at 12:22:14

We just launched a newer, cleaner version of the web-visualization tool (aka the website). It is still being modified quite a bit, so please pardon the messes that crop up. Work is now beginning on filling the database with useful information so that the site isn't completely empty. Please be patient as this is a VERY long process. We will be completing a thorough documentation of the 2007 season in the next month, and will then move backward in time to fill in previous seasons.

Database Design Completed

Submitted on 2007-07-01 at 08:01:53

Design of the ChaseManager database system is now complete. With 49 tables, it will allow a user to track everything from a CF card serial number, to thier vehicle statistics, to storm events witnessed. The database is designed to be very extensible and will work for a virtually unlimited combination of chasers, vehicles, equipment, chase vacations, chase days, driving days, hotel stays, fuel stops, storm events, gps logs, ...well you get the point.
Now, work begins on overhauling the data visualization application (website).

Historical Tornado Witnessed

Submitted on 2007-05-07 at 23:55:50

On May 4th, 2007, Rachael Sigler and Bob Fritchie witnessed the first ever EF5 tornado, and the first tornado since May 3rd , 1999 to be rated an F5. The tornado formed just NNE of Protection KS and tracked to the NNE, becoming a 1.7 mile wide wedge before hitting Greensburg Kansas and destroying 95% of the town. The tornado dissipated as it left the town, but some 45minutes later, were stopped to wait for another nearly 2 mile wide tornado to cross the road near Macksville and Saint John, KS. Here, we rendered assistance to the Russel County Emergency Manager, and later cleared trees off the road and helped a few people out of thier house.
